Fat Mannequin Sales for Plus-Size Clothing on the Rise

Fat mannequin sales for big-size women (and men) clothing are in high demand. In the last decade and a half, the increase is due to the growing number of outlets that sell fashionable clothing and apparel for plus-sized women.

This is a welcome development for the fashion and style industry.

According to a February 2012 article in The Telegraph titled Surge in Sales of Adele-Sized Mannequins, a leading UK mannequin company has reported a surge in orders for clothes dummies sized 12 and above. This is excellent news for full-bodied women.

What does this tell us? This trend confirms that retailers have finally accepted that the average woman is a size 14US and above, not a size 4US. And any size below an 8US is a non-accurate representation of the regular clothing shopper. Stylish choices open to large and fat women were almost non-existent.

Fat Mannequin Sales is Good News for Big-Bodied Women

This should be good news for plus-size women. Knowing that fat mannequin manufacturers are keeping up with rising demand means curvy women are returning to the fashion and style scene.

In the summer of 2011, Italian Vogue celebrated big-bodied models on a front cover photo showing three gorgeous plus-sized women. The editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani, made a welcoming remark – Why should these women slim down? Many of them with a few extra kilos are especially beautiful and feminine.

Recent research tells us that about one in five women in the Western world now demand oversized clothing. According to Custom Market Insights, the market for large-size women “was valued at USD 291.32 Billion in 2023. It is forecasted to reach USD 594.32 Billion by the end of 2032 at a CAGR of approximately 5.9% during the forecast period 2022-2030”.

Now, more fashion designers and merchandisers know the market size and its potential and are cashing in on the plus-size market. It means more brand recognition and increased earning possibilities. And let us not forget that it is also great news for the plus-size modelling industry.

Model agencies now encourage modelling careers and services for large women.  They need them to showcase the more beautiful XXX clothes created for the fashionable women who need them.
