Plus-Size Model Portfolios That Get the Attention of Agencies

plus size model portfolio

Plus-size model portfolios are no more different from the portfolios of skinny models. If you aspire to be a model in the fashion industry, you will need to create one that grabs the attention of the agencies. It includes photo shots of different poses and expressions, a resume, and call cards that showcase your skills, talents, and potential.

How Do You Achieve This?

If you wish to impress a modelling agency, know the type of photographs to take and how to present them. The photos that make up your portfolio must look as natural as possible. You want to impress, yes. But you must not present touched-up pictures. Prospective employers want to see photographs that showcase your natural looks. Enhanced photos must not be a part of your portfolio collections.

Rules for Building Good Model Portfolios

Your portfolio must include no less than twelve and no more than twenty photographs. No selfies. It must have at least four headshot pictures and two full-body shots.

  1. Photographs must be taken without makeup. If you must use makeup, make it sparse.
  2. Never use black eyeliner in your photo shots.
  3. Take photos of a freshly washed face and hair.
  4. Don’t take pictures with your hair covering a part of your face.
  5. Sweep your hair back when taking photographs. With long hair, a ponytail will suffice.
  6. Do not wear oversized, large, or dangling earrings. Studs will suffice
  7. Do not present photos of you wearing chunky neckchains or statement necklaces.
  8. Never present a picture of you wearing a loud hairstyle, no matter how great you may think it looks.
  9. Wear a firm plus-size bra with your top/blouse/dress before you take photographs.
  10. Do not wear body-enhancers, corsets, or girdles. If they require slimmer models, they won’t call you.
  11. Wear casual clothes or outfits that are simple but tasteful.
  12. Don’t wear torn jeans.
  13. Stick to block colour clothing and avoid heavily patterned or textured fabrics.
  14. Don’t wear spikes, block heels, or wedge heels. Wear flat sandals (or go barefoot).

Portfolios are the chance to give first impressions. Let them that count. They are the first thing the model scouts will see and use as a point of assessment.
